English Riding Spurs
In total contrast to the flamboyant and show spurs of the US, Mexico and Spain, the English spur is a thin, sleek and nimble spur that is mainly used in dressage and horse-riding events.
The spur, usually silver, also has a rounded or flat end instead of a rowel to help control the horse. Rowels are used on some types of English Spurs but the disk is very small and is usually smooth as they are used to control the direction of the horse during eventing rather than to try to gain more speed.
A popular style of English Spur is known as the Prince Of Wales. This is possibly the most popular kind of English Spur and has a slight downturned neck with a flat end which makes it slightly more sharper than other types.
