Cowboy Chaps
A cowboys legs would often come into contact with bushes, rocks and other environmental hazards and it is important that they were protected. Usually strapped and bucked over the legs on each side and worn up around the waist, the chaps were made from leather, hide or animal skin.
There are several types of chaps available and they are now used for show as well as practical reasons.
Shotgun Chaps
This style of chaps was used by Texan cowboys and they feature a straight, long leg piece on each side. They are tight fitting and are also called “Stovepipes”.
Batwing Chaps
Batwing chaps are flared at the bottom and are usually made from a smoother type of leather. They are loose fitting, which makes them better for active riding.
Chinks
These chaps are half length chaps that are designed to come down to the wearers knee. There is usually a fringe around the edges and they are made to be worn in warmer climates.
